When all around you are pinching pennies from production, stand against the tide and let your music fly free.
So seems to be the persuasion of Spanish artist Kramnik, the man who has been tipped by iDJ as ‘One to Watch’ and made it into DJ Mag’s ‘Top Pick’ (June 09) and Mixmag’s Top 10 (August 09), and who has decided not to charge fans for downloading his music.
On the A-side of his debut ‘freEP’, ‘Viclone’ is a dark, haunting and spatial progressive working out sampling genuine kettledrums, violins and an owl!
On the B-side, ‘BPM Blues’ makes creative use of a 1954 Howlin’ Wolf sample, a results quite unlike anything blues fans could have possibly dreamt up! Subtle snippets of harmonica and vocals laid-down by Kramnik himself.
